How can I help?
You can do a lot of things like:
1. In Florida, plant native Florida trees and plants.
This helps the animals have homes,
and helps endangered plants propagate.
It also helps the native plants take over the non-native
plants.
2.learn
everything you can about Florida panthers.
The more you know, the more inclined you are to vote for
land for panthers.
3. Go to the World
Wildlife Foundation. Click on "search" and type in Fl. panther.
They have an excellent letter that you can send to your
legislator, about saving the Everglades.
4. Don't buy exotic animals,
because they belong in the wild, not in your home.
5. Don't drive fast on roads where animals like Florida
panthers live.
Drive around 55mph, because the #1 cause
of panther deaths is road accidents.
6. In Florida, buy the Florida panther license plate.
The money goes to panther research and education.
7. Show you care. Display a panther bumper sticker.
8. Visit Florida's national and state parks.
9. Support groups that buy habitats, like the Nature Conservancy.
I hope these give you good ideas
on
how to save the Florida panther.
Can you come up with any more?
You may think that if you don't live in southwestern Florida,
this doesn't affect you. If you live in southeastern Florida, you have
to help get land for the panthers, too.
You may think that if you don't live in south Florida,
this doesn't affect you. If you live in north Florida, you have to learn
about panthers so that a new population can be started there.
You may think that if you don't live in Florida, this
doesn't affect you. Panthers will be taken from other states to be relocated
in Florida. This will affect people in many other states.
We are all in this together!
Let's not have the only Florida panthers around be a hockey
team.
